I'm hosting another bellydance party! Join us Sunday, Feb 17, 3-5 pm at Natalie's Taste of Lebanon in Richmond, Virginia. We have a great show planned for you and the food at Natalie's is wonderful. Call 804-499-3030 to make a reservation.
Do you make resolutions for the new year? Goals? Intentions? Whatever you call them, taking a bellydance class could be part of your list!
Several years ago, I started setting dance goals for myself. They gave me something specific to focus on, whether it was to learn a new style or prop, create a special choreography, or venture into hosting and teaching workshops. "If you build it, they will come" tended to be true. Setting a goal to learn more about folkloric styles led me to studying with Sahra Saeeda via her Journey Through Egypt courses (which changed my dance path in so many ways). Creating a vintage style tribute choreography manifested in "Raks Katy" for the 2017 Virginia Theatrical Bellydance show. Opportunities for teaching workshops have opened up for me in 2018 and coming up in 2019.
If you've never tried bellydance, if not now, when? You might fall in love with it like so many others (including me!) At least you'll know you've tried it.
If you have taken a class before and took a break for a few months, or even years, we'd love to have you dance with us. You know there's still a shimmy inside of you.
If you have been taking classes with me regularly, I'd love to know what goals you are setting for yourself. I'd love to help you work towards them!
Here's to whatever wonderful things are waiting for all of us in 2019!
Looking for gift inspiration for your favorite belly dancer? Here's a quick list with seven recommendations. Most of the links are either for Amazon.com or Bellydance.com.
Square sequins hipscarf (I love these!), available on Amazon or Bellydance.com
Gold hipscarf that's flashy, but quiet.
Not all silk veils are equal! Here are two reliable sources that I recommend: Nahari silks on Amazon and those sold by Bellydance.com.
If your dancer likes the sparkly stuff, how about a necklace set like this?
The more we dance, the more gear we have to haul around! I love these BlueQ bags.
If your dancer has a DVD player, this Combination Nation set is a great buy.
Belly dancers of all styles (oriental, fusion, etc) need a little make-up to bring out their features for performances. A gift card for Sephora or Ulta is always appreciated.
